“We’ve got to heal the world; the future is in our hands”
Music has always been a strong medium for advocacy. Combined
with youths, it makes for a resounding call to action against climate change.
That’s exactly what singer and songwriter, Savuto
Vakadewavosa achieved when he brought together some of Fiji's young artists to produce
a music video for, ‘Make a Change’. After having penned the lyrics, Mr.
Vakadewavosa recruited the help of Pasifika Voices Music Director Eroni Dina to
direct the recording sessions and Michael Irava as producer. The song featured Paulini
Cava, Pauliasi Koroiwaca, Tua Mainavukea, Vilisi Waqatakirewa, Ilisavani Cava,
Elena Baravilala, Eroni Dina and Kiti Niumataiwalu. The video production was
under the direction of award winning video producer, Rajnel Prasad with Bright
Future films.
The song was launched during the Hibiscus Festival at the
Grand Pacific Hotel and since then has been making rounds on television music
shows and social media.
Mr. Vakadewavosa said they felt the need to raise awareness
on a cause through the best way they knew how, which was through music.
“I am so very grateful to everyone that made it happen,
especially my fellow artists who gave their time to be involved in this project
with me. It really is a moment I will dearly cherish,” he said.
